Hillary. Fucking. Clinton.
I’m voting for her, none of us have a choice, but she doesn’t make it easy. I woke up this morning to this:
Look, I’m voting for her. I have a hard time thinking there’s anything Trump could possibly say that would make me want to vote for him, and I’m not wasting my vote on this year’s crop of third party candidates, but she just doesn’t make it easy. This story hasn’t blown up as big as it can yet, but we’re going to be hearing about this one through the election and it’s hard to write off. She sounds pretty proud of herself for that line, and that only makes it worse.
The “basket of deplorables” line is the sort of thing I might come up with and keep to myself, it’s an interesting phrase, but that’s just not the sort of shit you say out loud when the fate of the free world rests on your shoulders. Could Trump get away with saying that? Well, he wouldn’t have come up with that particular phrase, but regardless he’d get a pass. There is a double standard when it comes to covering Hillary, it’s very real and very unfair, but it is how it is and nobody is going to let her get away from this.
I don’t mind Hillary, I think she would be the most prepared President on day one ever and that’s valuable. Because of her previous jobs, she is intimately familiar with the intricacies surrounding handling foreign and domestic affairs competently. Hillary knows her shit. Regardless of this (or perhaps this year because of it), she is widely resented by the American public as a whole, and too much damage has been done to suddenly change millions of voters’ minds.
She may be right about her “basket of deplorables,” but those racists, sexists, homophobes and xenophobes still each have one vote, and she would be their President. She’s already lost them.
